Central to the event’s mission was the concept of Focus Forward Civility, an initiative created by Dr. Ira Roach III in 2021. Focus Forward Civility promotes the values of respect, integrity, and community-minded leadership. It emphasizes the importance of understanding, tolerance, and forward-thinking action in our daily interactions, encouraging people from all walks of life to build bridges of civility and positive influence.

 Honoring Our Heroes

Four remarkable individuals were honored, each bringing their unique story of resilience and triumph. Their powerful speeches resonated with all present, offering lessons on perseverance, redemption, and service to others:

- William Smack Jr.: Once entangled in a life of crime, William Smack Jr. has redefined his path as a community advocate and entrepreneur. His story exemplifies the power of change and the influence one can have in helping others avoid the pitfalls he once faced.

- Eric Amaro: Known for his work as a homeless advocate, Eric’s journey from incarceration to reentry success stands as a beacon of hope for many. His commitment to supporting those experiencing homelessness and reentering society reminds us all of the importance of second chances.

- Councilman Tony Neal: A former offender who has remained clean and sober for 34 years, Councilman Tony Neal shared insights from his personal journey of transformation. Today, he uses his experience to guide and inspire others, serving as a testament to the enduring power of recovery.
